Training Overview

The Airway Study and Training Center (ASTC) provides training for physicians who are anesthesiologists as well as non-anesthesiologists, CRNAs, respiratory therapists, anesthesia technicians, and paramedics. Several simulators are used, including AirMan, SimMan, and Virtual Bronchoscopy. The ASTC also has an extensive inventory of airway equipment and employs various multimedia tools to assist in education.

Goals
  1. To provide an environment for organized teaching and training in airway management.
  2. To offer individualized intensive training for physicians, CRNAs, and other health care providers engaged in airway management.
  3. To emphasize cognitive knowledge, analysis of information, judgment, and technical skills that are crucial for safe airway management.
  4. To improve the standards of airway management by encouraging research and dissemination of new information.
