Residency

Integrated Internship (PGY1)

Residents accepted into a 4 year categorical anesthesia position at the University of Chicago complete their PGY-1 year at both the University of Chicago and NorthShore University Healthsystem Evanston campus. The internship year is designed to provide a broad exposure that serves as the foundation for more specialized training in clinical anesthesia. Interns rotate through a wide variety of specialties at both institutions, allowing a great breadth of experience. Categorical interns are also welcomed to the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care family from day one, participating in departmental events and dinners throughout their internship year.

Residency

Both categorical (integrated internship plus 3 year clinical anesthesia training), and advanced positions (internship outside the program plus 3 year clinical anesthesia training) are offered through the NRMP match. Both positions provide a wide and complete exposure and training in all aspects of anesthesia practice. Besides clinical exposure, the residency program prides itself on training residents to become expert consultant perioperative physicians.
