Fellowships in Human Psychomotor Performance

Two fellowship positions will be offered.

Position #1
The Human Psychomotor Performance Laboratory in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care is recruiting for a CA-4 Resident to serve a 1-2 year fellowship. Duties include conducting experimental protocols and monitoring the safety of healthy volunteer research participants.

The studies conducted in the lab are NIH-funded, under the supervision of James Zacny, Ph.D. and Diana Walker, Ph.D. The studies include the characterization of the subjective, psychomotor, and rewarding effects of nitrous oxide and other inhaled anesthetics (one NIH grant), and prescription opioids (another NIH grant). During the fellowship, the doctor will have the opportunity to design and conduct a study or studies under the mentorship of either Dr. Zacny or Walker. The doctor will further his/her training in experimental design and data analysis issues, and will assist in manuscript preparation. The fellow will also have the opportunity to develop and write a grant.

Position #2
The Human Psychomotor Performance Laboratory in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care is recruiting for a Ph.D. postdoctoral fellow to serve a 2-year fellowship. Duties include supervising and conducting human psychopharmacology experimental protocols.

The studies conducted in the lab are NIH-funded (Principal Investigators: James Zacny, Ph.D. and Diana Walker, Ph.D.). Studies include the characterization of the subjective, psychomotor, and rewarding effects of nitrous oxide and other inhaled anesthetics, different opioids (including prescription painkillers), and other drugs commonly used by anesthesiologists in their everyday practice. During the fellowship, the candidate will further his/her training in experimental design and data analysis issues, and will assist in manuscript preparation.

The successful candidate should have a degree in the social sciences, although certain life sciences specialties will also be considered, and should have an avid interest in the area of psychopharmacology.
