| Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship
The University of Chicago has a new ACGME-accredited pediatric anesthesia fellowship, and is pleased to offer 2 fellowship positions annually. Comer Children’s Hospital opened in February 2005, and provides a new, free standing state-of-the-art facility on campus dedicated to the care of children. There are 5 operating rooms in which over 4000 surgical cases are conducted per year. Many anesthetics are also administered outside of the OR’s, including in the congenital cardiac cath lab, interventional radiology, and the MRI and CT suites. Children of all ages are cared for, from premature neonates to adolescents. We are able to offer a substantial experience in routine pediatric surgical cases, and also a full range of all pediatric surgical subspecialties, including neuro, craniofacial, pediatric cardiac, OHNS, ophthalmology, general surgery, orthopedic, urology, plastics, transplant and neonatal surgery. Both the NICU and PICU are very active units, and enable us to care for patients ranging from healthy out-patients to critically ill neonates and children. Fellows participate actively in perioperative pain management, with ample opportunity for regional blocks. There is a 1 month rotation in pain management at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 90 minutes away. This affiliation allows the opportunity for extensive experience in acute and chronic pediatric pain management in another ACGME-accredited program. The rotations for the year include:
The didactics include a defined 12-month curriculum, which is designed to enable fellows to become both experts and consultants in pediatric anesthesiology. Opportunities are available for research experience and mentoring. We are excited to offer a new fellowship in the new state-of-the-art Comer Children’s Hospital, which builds upon the University of Chicago’s and the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care’s excellent academic reputation and tradition. Our program’s robust clinical experience will enable fellows to become outstanding clinicians and consultants in the field of pediatric anesthesia. The University of Chicago is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
